Eisley are well aware of the significance of former Oingo Boingo frontman Danny Elfman's soundtrack work -- particularly his collaborations with director Tim Burton, which singer Sherri DuPree considers among her favorite. However, DuPree admits she didn't really understand the magnitude of Oingo Boingo until she and her mates began working on their new album 'Combinations.' That much came thanks to producer Richard Gibbs, a one-time keyboardist for the Oingo Boingo who ventured out of his own film-scoring work to produce Eisley's album."He came to a bunch of our shows when we were talking about doing the album," DuPree tells Spinner of Gibbs. "He was really interested. We thought, 'This could be a really cool match,' because we didn't want a producer who could cut and paste, or had a formula for recording bands. It was amazing."
"He would tell us Danny Elfman stories," DuPree continues. "He showed us some old videos and we were cracking up. Danny Elfman is so crazy looking."
In addition to -- or perhaps because of -- the vintage Elfman videos and stories, DuPree says Gibbs brought a relaxed feel to the making-of in his Malibu recording studio. "The first album we did we recorded in L.A., so it was kind of hectic, especially for our first album," DuPree says. "But this was different. We really had time to concentrate on the album and be involved in the process. When you're stuck in Malibu, you don't want to go anywhere."
